Summary:

Large volumes of data, advancement in computing and analytics which are all powered by the internet have disrupted the way many industries operate and deliver their services over the years. From banking to communication to ride hailing, the AEC industry isn’t immune to this wave of change. The shift from producing drawings to producing data has ushered in a relatively new approach in practice called computational design.

This presentation seeks to achieve three things:

  1. Provide a launchpad for the audience to better understand the historical context surrounding computational design;
  2. Explore the current applications of computational design in practice; and
  3. Provide a window into what the future holds for the AEC industry in light of this new approach.

Speaker Bio:

Azubike Ononye is the director of digital technology at INFORM Studio. He leads the firm’s technology initiatives with the goal of both enhancing the capabilities (and output) of designers and eliminating stakeholder pain points/process waste associated with the design and delivery of projects. Additionally, Azubike also chairs Computational Design Detroit (co.de.D), an AIA Detroit committee that seeks to empower students and professionals in the AEC industry to learn, share and implement computational thinking.
